It has been a very long time since any new posts have been made. As many may already know, the last year has been a very difficult year. The Lord has called home two amazing servants. As we struggle with this and our hearts still ache and hurt, we must be reminded that the Lord is in control. As the world stared into the heavens on Monday August 21, 2017 to watch the eclipse, God showed his power and greatness for a glimpse to those who believe. Others may say it happened just because, or give a detailed scientific reason. But one thing is for sure, it did happen, and for those who believe in God know that it was an awesome reminder that he is in control. As millions of people geared up to watch this event, there was one who had a whole different perspective on life that day. You see, he came to us explaining that he realized that he had been "riding his bicycle" with training wheels still, and wanted to "take them off" and fully rely on God!! This was a very well taught lesson from a very wise and mature 10 year old. As he explained this all to me, I soon realized that I too need to take a "leap of faith" and rely fully on God!! I was amazed how this little boy that we have raised had just preached the Gospel to me!! He made it known that he wanted to be baptized and obey his Lord! I want to say congratulations to you Josiah for the steps you have taken!! We are so very proud of you, just as the Lord is well pleased in you. We love you!! #UNASHAMED #GODISINCONTROL #FULLYRELYONGOD
Sunday evening I started a two part study over sin. As we continue through the "Why We Sin" study, let us remember these key thoughts: 1. We tend to classify our sins by a scale, meaning a little lie isn't as bad as murder. And we say: "what I am doing isn't as bad as what that person is doing". By doing this, we become deceived by sin. To God, sin is sin!! We try to make ourselves "feel better" if our sin isn't as bad as someone elses sin. Then we begin to "justify" why we sin, and before we know it we are consumed and overtaken by sin. 2. Heb 3:13 says...But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. 3. We will sin after we become a Christian, although this is not an excuse to sin. The apostle John in writing to Christians who had already been baptized for the forgiveness of their past sins says, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us" (1 John 1:8). 4. People also sin because they have no fear of God our creator. In Ecc. 12:13 it says to "fear God and keep His commandments". If we are not fearful of our consequences, then we tend to not care. 5. People sin because there is temporary pleasure in sin. Moses chose "rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season" (Hebrews 11:25). Because of the pleasures of sin, we are tempted and enticed. "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin, and sin when it is finished, brings forth death" (James 1:14-15). As we continue this study, we will look at more reasons why people sin, and hopefully have a better understanding of what God says about this. We know that because of Jesus we are forgiven of our sins, but we have to also realize that God wants us to obey and follow him. #UNASHAMED
Here is the latest update on Lyndie. Carrie just sent this text to me. She did well. She is back in her room. They cleaned out the infection from her chest. They removed parts of the clavicle, ribs, and sternum that were infected. She has a wound vac in place. It has been decided now, that she will do 6 wks antibiotic therapy. Then we will do a TEE to recheck the infection on her valve. The antibiotic therapy may get rid of the ball of infection on her valve. There is a possibility that it will not, then she will require a valve replacement. But! I believe that God is the one true physician and he will heal her His way not ours! So with all our prayers let us pray that she will not have to undergo a valve replacement.
Here is the latest update on Lyndie. The 2nd heart surgeon came in, he wants to meet with some other heart surgeons before a plan is put into action. They want to continue IV antibiotics. In hopes that it could possibly help. They are still unsure on draining the neck or valve replacement at this time . So we are at a standstill, while the doctors collaborate on a plan of treatment. The ct of neck was clear of any infection in the hardware.
This update is a text from Carrie about Lyndie Shriver- Johnson!! The ENT doc did not do the procedure this morning. He referred her to a thoracic surgeon to drain the infection from her neck and chest area. We are waiting for him to come in and assess her and schedule that surgery, which will probably be tomorrow. The infection control doc came in and they are planning on replacing the mitral valve within the week or two. They will do the valve replacement here at Baptist, in fear upon transferring her to Mercy ( this is where her 1st valve replacement was done at) that the vegatation /infection on the valve may break off and throw a clot. We are still waiting on the neurosurgeon to come in and tell us the results of the ct of spine, and the possibility of the hardware of her neck being involved with the infection. Thank you for the continued prayers! Love to all!
This is the latest update UPDATE on Lyndie Shriver- Johnson!!! This is a text I got from My sister a few minutes ago!! "Her valve is infected. She will require open heart surgery to replace the mechanical valve. They will do her heart surgery when her body is cleared of infection, probably in 1-2 months. They plan on draining the infection in her neck tomorrow morning." The valve is not the source of the infection it has just been damaged by it!! They are still looking for the source the next place for them to look is the plate and screws they put in her neck back in 09!!
Latest update on sister Lyndie. They just finished her CT of spine. They are seeing if the infection is in the hardware from her neck surgery she had in 2009. At 2:00 today, the cardiologist will do a TEE which is a scope down her mouth to her heart. This will determine if the valve is infected. Later on the ENT doc and thoracic surgeon may open her neck up and drain the infection from neck and check for abscesses. She was able to get up today and shower. She is now resting. Love to all! Thank you for the prayers!
This was the latest update on Lyndie about 3 hours ago. Please continue to pray! Also keep Bruce and Carrie in your prayers. They have been by her side nonstop. Her inr is 1.2 now, which means fear of clots. With a mechanical valve they like her ranges to be 2.5-3.5. They are not sure what to do now in case giving her Coumadin may cause her to jump high again. The ENT doctor, infectious disease doctor, and in house dr. assessed her. They are going to do ct scans tomorrow and reevaluate her labs.
Please pray for our dear sister in Christ Lyndie. This was posted this morning from her daughter (my wife), Carrie. I will update as I find out more information. Hi this Carrie, Lyndie's daughter. She is at Baptist in okc now. They transferred her via ambulance this am. Her CT scan showed that she has phlegmon, which is an infection of the connective tissues It is in her neck and chest. Her INR is 8.3 , her blood is very very thin. They gave her plasma and vitamin k, to help thicken her blood. They have brought together a team of doctors to evaluate her, a Ear, nose, and throat surgeon, thoracic surgeon, and an infectious disease doctor. They will evaluate her to see if she needs surgery. They will redraw her labs now and we are waiting on the doctors. Please pray and ask anyone you know to pray! She has been my rock and I need her!! I will try to keep everyone updated.
